quando accedo al phpMyAdmin inserisco il nome "root" e la password e appena premo "Esegui" mi ritorna all'accesso senza darmi errore...come mai?

Se vuoi settare la password del phpmyadmin fallo dall'inc.config che sta nella cartella del phpmyadmin. ;)

Si grazie ma l'errore che mi da quando provo a startare MySQL?

@Cix10 quando provo a startare MySQL mi dice "Attempting to start MySQL device..."

Elimina xampp dal c: e reinstallalo.

Ok sono riuscito a startare Apache e MySQL e come suggeritomi sono andato a modificare la password tramite il phpmyadmin di xampp ma purtroppo il risultato è questo:
